What Do I Wear For My Family Session?

Deciding what to wear is, most often, the biggest stressor when preparing for a photoshoot.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you find the best outfit for your upcoming shoot:

For family shoots, I always recommend starting with Mom. Moms usually have the hardest time finding what makes them comfortable let alone trying to coordinate with everyone else. Once mom has her outfit, it's easy to move onto the rest of the family!

When choosing an outfit, consider these factors:

  1. COLOUR: No colour is off limits, but it's a good idea to work in colour families. For example, if most of the family has dusty hues, but Great-Uncle Nick shows up in a bright red Flames jersey, let's just say the focal point will be distinct and not necessarily where you want it to be.
  2. TEXTURE: Adding texture to an outfit is a great way to draw in some interesting elements to your photos. Don't worry about coordinating textures with everyone in your shoot; using it as an accent will have the best results.
  3. PATTERN: Patterns are another great way to add an interesting element to photos. I usually recommend one individual only in the shoot to wear pattern to create one focal point; too many patterns can get busy. One pattern to be aware of is stripes! Stripes can often leave a psychedelic imprint on a photo, and can also interfere with lines.
  4. LOGOS: I typically suggest avoiding logos on clothing unless it is used with a specific intention.
  5. LOCATION: It's important to consider where your location is to help direct the feel of your outfits. Your location may influence things like colour and texture!
  6. ACCESSORIES: Take the apple watch off!

What Do I Wear For My Business Shoot?

When it comes to business, the most important question is, "Who is my audience?"

Here are some simple, but important, points when considering what to wear for your business shoot:

  • Dress for the role you want! Your attire reflects your business.

  • Consider your brand colour scheme; what colours do you want highlighted?

  • Feel free to bring multiple outfits to create distinct, and on-brand, photos.

  • Most importantly, be comfortable! Dress the way YOU want to dress.
